Dust Off the Putters: Golf Season Has Arrived in Guelph!

After what feels like an eternity of unseasonable rainfall and a long, wet spring, I have some news that will be music to the ears of every local golfer. It’s time to trade the umbrella for a 7-iron. The local courses are finally opening up!
As a kid who grew up at Cutten Fields and spent a couple of seasons working at Victoria Park West, I’ve spent my fair share of time on the greens (and let’s be honest, mostly in the rough). My father caddied at Cutten Fields back in 1947 before turning Pro, so the smell of freshly cut grass at the start of the season always feels a bit like home to me.
Opening Dates at a Glance
If you’re itching to get your first round in, here is the lay of the land for our local fairways:
- Springfield Golf Course: Already ahead of the game, they’ve been open for over a week.
- Victoria Park East & Valley: Both courses officially welcomed golfers back on the 23rd.
- Guelph Lakes Golf and Country Club: Set to open this Wednesday, April 29th.
- Cutten Fields: Preparing for their opening day on Thursday, April 30th.
- Guelph Country Club: Also opening on Thursday, April 30th.
A Friendly Local Reminder
While we’re all eager to get out there, do keep in mind that the ground is still quite fragile after the record-breaking rain we’ve seen this month. If the pro shop staff tell you it’s “walking only” or keep the carts on the path, please be respectful.
Their #1 priority is making sure the course stays in great shape for the entire season. We’d all rather walk a round now than be putting through divots and mud pits in July!
Looking to Sharpen Your Game?
