Exhibition Park

If you’ve lived in Guelph for any length of time, you know that Exhibition Park isn’t just a neighbourhood; it’s a lifestyle. Located just north-west of our vibrant Downtown, this area represents the very best of “Old Guelph.” It’s where history meets an active, community-first spirit.

As someone who has spent decades exploring our local streets, from the early days of the GORBA trails to my current life in The Ward, I can tell you that Exhibition Park holds a special kind of magic. Whether it’s the canopy of majestic tree-lined streets or the sound of a crackling bat at the stadium, this neighbourhood is pure Guelph.

Deep Roots & Royal History

Many people don’t realise just how significant this patch of land is to Ontario’s heritage. This site was the original home of the Ontario Royal Winter Fair, a predecessor to the world-renowned Royal Agricultural Winter Fair now held at Exhibition Place in Toronto. Long before the “Royal” became a Toronto staple, the finest in agriculture and livestock gathered right here in Guelph. That prestigious legacy still lingers in the air and in the “Royal City” pride we feel today.

A Personal Field of Dreams

My connection to these grounds goes back further than my real estate career. If you look back at the GMBA T-Ball archives of 1977, you’ll find me on the diamond. I was a proud member of the Championship-winning “Rexnord” sponsored team. We took home the title right here at Exhibition Park, and while my career peaked at age six, those summer days spent running the bases are etched in my memory.

Later in life, the park called me back to the Exhibition Arena. I’ve roamed that ice in plenty of pick-up games over the years. While my injuries keep me on the sidelines these days, the sound of skates on fresh ice at Exhibition still feels like home.

The Architectural Tapestry

The charm of Exhibition Park lies in its diversity. Walking these streets is like taking a masterclass in Ontario’s architectural evolution. You’ll find:

  • Stately Red Brick Classics: Stunning two-storey homes that have stood the test of time, often featuring original wood trim and expansive front porches that are perfect for watching a summer storm roll in.
  • Stone Cottages: Tucked-away gems that remind us of Guelph’s “Royal City” limestone heritage.
  • Expansive Bungalows: Rare finds on generous lots that offer a different pace of life without sacrificing the urban location.

Where Community Gathers

  • David E. Hastings Stadium: Home to the Guelph Royals. There is nothing quite like a summer evening in the stands watching our local IBL team.
  • The Canopy: The neighbourhood is famous for its mature trees, providing a natural cathedral over the sidewalks that is simply unmatched in newer developments.

Michael’s Insider Tip: “Exhibition Park is the ultimate blend of ‘The Guelph Modifier’ it’s historic, it’s active, and it’s fiercely local. Whether you’re a young family or looking to retire near the park, the value here is as solid as the limestone in our downtown buildings.”
